Places You Must See In Tunisia

Tunisia is a stunning country located in North Africa; it's a popular tourist destination for many, one that can sweep you off of your feet. If you are planning a holiday to the culture-rich country, there are many great attractions that you should visit whilst there. To ensure that you capitalize on your time in the nation, we've compiled a comprehensive list of some of the most popular tourist destinations to visit while exploring Tunisia.

Roman ruins

Carthage is situated in the outer area of the capital of Tunisia and was, in fact, a Roman capital city itself. The area is well worth a visit, as a greta number of the ruins remain and thus, there is a lot to see. Locations such as the Roman Antonin baths and the Roman Amphitheater are just two of these amazing sites. The place itself is extremely stunning and very picturesque.

Holy City

Kairouan is known as the Holy City of Tunisia, and is home to at least fifty mosques. It is fair to say that culture is on offer in abundance, and the place is simply awe-inspiring. The area possesses a magical feeling that is equal parts calming and cleansing.

Sidi Bou Said

Sidi Bou Said, also known as the blue and white village, is an absolutely beautiful and quaint village. It looks over the Bay of Tunis, and its beauty and serenity is not something that can be overlooked. The blue and white colouring of the village has pretty much become its trademark, while the atmosphere in the location is buzzing and lively, making it a generally happy place.

Sahara Desert

Riding a camel along the desert is a surreal experience, and there is no better place to do so than in the Sahara Desert. If you ride along during sunset, then you are in for a real treat, and this is guaranteed to be an experience you will not forget in a long time. Quite simply, it is magical, and you can’t leave Tunisia without experiencing it.

You will need to make sure you have the right sunglasses while here though, so you can truly enjoy your surroundings. Places like eyeglasses.com can assist with this.

Salt flats

This experience will require you getting up before sunrise but trust me it is so worth it. When the sun comes up and you witness salt flats at Chott el Jerid, it simply is remarkable. You won’t see anything like it anywhere else; this is reiterated in the fact that the location was used to film parts of Star Wars!

Troglodyte Caves

The Troglodyte Caves of Matmata are well worth a visit. They consist of cave-like houses that are actually homes to some Tunisians, dug into the ground to safeguard the local people from the blazing heat. If you are lucky enough, you may find that one of the people living there will let you in their home for a quick peek. Actually, there is a very good chance of this, because generally, they are all extremely friendly!

These locations mentioned are just a mere slice of a whole host of attractions on offer whilst visiting Tunisia. Nevertheless, these are certainly the ones that I would not recommend leaving the beautiful African nation without doing. Enjoy a beautiful camel ride along the desert and witness the Roman ruins on offer, there literally is so much to do during your stay.
